Which Breast Procedure is Right for Me?

When it comes to enhancing the appearance of your breasts, there are several different procedures available, including breast implants, lifts and reductions, but how do you know which procedure is right for you?

Very often, some women will need to undergo two different procedures in order to achieve their desired results but the only way to really know which procedures are best for you is to consult with a professional plastic surgeon. Let’s look at a few of the available options.

    Breast lifts explained

There are a number of different reasons why a woman’s breasts begin to sag, including weight loss or gain, pregnancy and even genetics. Once the breasts start to sag, the surrounding skin stretches too. A breast lift will help get your breasts back to their original position on your chest, tighten your skin and reshape your breasts in order to achieve a more youthful appearance.

Is a breast lift right for me?

A breast lift is the right procedure for you if:

    • The breasts are no longer firm and lack volume
    • Your tissue is lower than your breast crease
    • The nipples point downward
    • Your breasts are asymmetrical
    • The shape of your breasts is unusual

Here’s another simple test: Place a pencil under the crease of your breast. If it stays where it is without you holding it, you may want to consider a breast lift.

    Breast lifts and implants

A breast lift is often enough to help you achieve a more desirable appearance, however, it can sometimes reduce the volume of your breasts to some degree too. If you are happy with the size of your breasts, there is no need to undergo augmentation along with your breast lift.

If you would prefer to increase the size of your breasts and make them even perkier, implants can also be used.

    Breast reduction explained

Bigger isn’t always better. Large breasts can lead to various health issues and leave women in a lot of physical pain, which is where a breast reduction can help. During breast reduction surgery, fat, glandular tissue and skin are removed in order to reduce the size and weight of your breasts. Breast reduction can also be used in conjunction with augmentation to achieve a firmer appearance.

Is a breast reduction right for me?

A breast reduction is the right procedure for you if:

    • You have very large breasts
    • You suffer from neck, back and shoulder pain
    • Your breasts have stretched skin
    • You struggle to find bras that fit you correctly
    • You’re at a healthy weight
    • Your expectations are realistic

    Breast Lift & Reduction Scaring

Breast reduction and breast lift patients can expect some scarring after their procedure. These wounds will fade over time though, with results being dependant on your skin pigment, quality and your dedication to post-surgery care.

A breast lift will result in a scar around your areola, down to your breast fold and under your crease, basically in the shape of an anchor.

A breast reduction will either result in a lollipop scar if your breasts are small or an anchor-shaped scar if you have larger breasts.

When discussing post-surgery care with your surgeon, find out about oils and creams that you can possibly use to reduce scaring.

    Breast Lift & Reduction longevity

Patients should not expect their breast lift or reduction results to last forever as ageing and gravity will eventually take its toll again, which is why revision surgery may be required.
